Leadership Isn’t Learned only in the Boardroom
As we closed out our The Addams Family Young@Part production this past Sunday afternoon, standing on stage with our actors one final time, it all sank in—this was it.
This cast and crew will never have this moment again. So they embraced it. They lived it. They experienced it. They made the most of it.
Watching our actors take pictures with friends and family in the lobby, hug their loved ones, and even shed tears as they walked back to their parents’ cars was incredibly powerful.
Those tears reminded me of something we often forget as adults: when you give everything you have to something that matters, you care deeply about the outcome.
The lessons these 8–14-year-old artists taught me perfectly reflect what Leadership from the Stage is all about. Be fully present. Give your best. Celebrate others. Build people up. Competition has its place, but the leaders who create the biggest impact are the ones who inspire those around them to succeed.
One moment I’ll never forget happened backstage. I watched the actress playing Wednesday jumping up and down, cheering for her friend playing Morticia after she nailed a song in Act II.
No audience saw it. No applause followed. It was simply one young leader celebrating another.
That’s the kind of culture we should all strive to build—in our schools, our businesses, and our communities. Innovative leaders don’t just create great performances; they create environments where others can do their best work.
To every actor, parent, volunteer, and staff member who made this production possible—thank you. It truly took a village.
